One year ago, Satya Nadella spoke in San Francisco to launch SQL Server 2014. Today, we are pleased to announce the release of SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 1 (SP1). The Service Pack is available for download on the Microsoft Download Center. As part of our continued commitment to software excellence for our customers, this upgrade is available to all customers with existing SQL Server 2014 deployments.
SQL Server 2014 SP1 contains fixes to issues that have been reported through our customer feedback platforms and Hotfix solutions provided in SQL Server 2014 CU 1 up to and including CU 5, as well as a rollup of fixes previously shipped in SQL Server 2012 SP2.
A few of the customer-requested updates in Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP1 are:
- Column store performance is improved when batch mode operators spill over to disk. A new XEvent provides insights into column store inserts.
- Several issues in buffer pool extension SSD configuration are addressed, including the ability to do instant initialization of the buffer pool extension file.
- Certain queries compile faster when using new cardinality estimator, and other cardinality estimation query plans are more efficient when using TF-4199.
- The scalability benefits of two trace flags (TF-1236, TF-9024) are applied automatically.
- Backup header information retrieval works better with encrypted backups.
Customers like Samsung Electro-Mechanics are already seeing the benefits of upgrading to SQL Server 2014. Samsung improved OLTP performance up to 24 times and DW up to 22 times when they upgraded to SQL Server 2014. SBI Liquidity Market sped up their transaction performance by tenfold when they adopted SQL Server 2014 in-memory OLTP.

If we require hotfixes from SQL Server 2014 RTM CU6 do we need to wait for CU1 of SP1?
Hi there, I thought I would test this SQL 2014 SP1 on a demo VM, and the installation did not complete for the Database Engine. After looking in the ERRORLOG for SQL Server I got the following:
2015-04-16 09:31:54.23 spid8s Schema build in SSISDB has been updated to 12.0.4050.0
2015-04-16 09:31:54.37 spid8s Error: 1088, Severity: 16, State: 12.
2015-04-16 09:31:54.37 spid8s Cannot find the object "internal.object_parameters" because it does not exist or you do not have permissions.
2015-04-16 09:31:54.37 spid8s Error: 912, Severity: 21, State: 2.
2015-04-16 09:31:54.37 spid8s Script level upgrade for database ‘master’ failed because upgrade step ‘SSIS_hotfix_install.sql’ encountered error 3602, state 251, severity 25. This is a serious error condition which might interfere with regular operation and
the database will be taken offline. If the error happened during upgrade of the ‘master’ database, it will prevent the entire SQL Server instance from starting. Examine the previous errorlog entries for errors, take the appropriate corrective actions and re-start
the database so that the script upgrade steps run to completion.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi there, I would like to download the SQL 2014 trial, but the link is refered to SQL 2014. Please fix it.
Hi there, I would like to download the SQL 2014 trial, but the "try now" link is refered to SQL 2012 SP1. Please fix it.
I’m impressed that Microsoft SQL Server is the only Microsoft program that saves from the Metro ugly UI and the force to Microsoft Cloud Services.
For now, it remains one of the best products in the database market.
We will have to see if in future versions Microsoft destroys it adding a flat and two colors Metro UI, and removing the SQL Server Management Studio in favour of an ugly metro web interface and the requirement or the recommend of a Microsoft Cloud Service,
like Microsoft do in Windows Server, Office, Exchange Server, etc.
Matthew – You are correct: if you require additional Cumulative Updates, the next release will be SQL Server 2014 SP1 CU1.
Please try & hurry up with fixing the service pack, as I really want to mess around with sp1.
Links do not work for me
