Your name: Bob Borges

Your geographic location (country): USA

Project Name/Description: Deploy SCVMM 2008

Objectives of the project: Improve performance, Improve ease of use, Easily migrate guests from one host to another.

Are you piloting or deploying the products: Deploying

Products used in project: Windows Server 2008, Hyper-V, SCVMM 2008

Were the objectives stated at the beginning satisfied? Yes

Are you going to be saving money? Yes, The money we save with this project will be in terms of engineer hours. We will spend less time doing manual moves and less time doing maintenance and preparing for maintenance on our virtual servers.  We will also save time in finding servers.  With our infrastructure we were tracking everything in excel which inevitably got out of date.  Now, we track everything in SCVMM and all updates are automatic.  We no longer waste time looking for servers.

What do you think about the product? SCVMM is a great tool. The cost was trivial compared to other management solutions. It is a huge time saver. It is an easy way to look at all our VM hosts and guests in one easy to use interface. It is easy to "find" servers where without the management tool, we found it very easy to lose servers. I also love the fact that it integrates with Operations Manager. We have not set that up yet but it is on the radar for a near term project.

Anything else you care to share?  Not really, just keep adding new features.

What do you think about the IT Pro Momentum Program? It is new to me but it is very nice. I love the fact that you can submit an issue and get directed to someone that can help me. It is great for non-urgent high level understanding of how things work within the product.
