When Technology finally hits the spot

We were all pretty chuffed in the office today when the big boss man gave us all a LifeCam NX-6000. As well as being a generous chap, he did this so we can all start to evangelise about the wonders of unified communications.

I have to admit that for a few hours today, I haven't felt the wonders of technology as I installed the webcam but was unable to get it to work correctly over Communications Server. I could see myself but not the other person when on the call. Frustrated that everyone else around me could make it work...I was now challenged (by no-one else other than me) to get the thing to work.

The only thing I could work out that was different was that I was actually still on the 2005 version of Communicator Server not 2007. So I bravely went about uninstalling 2005 and then installing 2007. After what felt like 7 days, 386 failures of a certain Outlook add-in and 756 restarts of my computer, Office Communications Server 2007 installed correctly and I could get it to work :)

The other cool thing today is the launch of the new generation of Windows Live. I am absolutely loving the new Live toolbar that includes Live Writer (which I use to write my blog posts) and a link to Windows Messenger as well as Hotmail
