HOTFIX: “Setting Discovery Error” is returned for SQL Server 2014 Configuration Items in System Center Configuration Manager

The evaluation of configuration items in System Center Configuration Manager causes a setting discovery error on Configuration Manager clients if the following conditions are true:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (any service pack level) is installed on the client.
  • The configuration item contains a setting type of “SQL query” and has an instance of SQL Server that’s defined as “All instances.”

The display of the compliance report that’s generated on the client resembles the following:

Error Type Error Code Error Description Error Source
Setting Discovery Error 0x80041002 Not Found WMI
