Nach Windows Server 2008 nun auch Windows Vista SP1 für TechNet Kunden

TechNet Subscriber können nun das Windows Vista SP1 Update herunterladen und installieren. Ganz legal und einfach im Downloadbereich der TechNet Subscription den Link anklicken und sicher sein, dass der Download auch wirklich das SP1 von Microsoft ist.

Als TechNet Subscriber wissen Sie es bereits seit langem: Sie haben einfach Vorteile. Wie z.B. Zugriff auf alle Microsoft Produkte zum Testen und Evaluieren. Und zwar auf die echten Produkte, nicht nur auf die zeitlich begrenzten Testversionen. Und der sichere Zugriff auf SP1 für die treuesten unserer Microsoft Kunden ist da nur eine nette Geste von Microsoft an Sie.

Aber mit dem SP1 lassen wie Sie nicht im Regen stehen; natürlich gibt es wieder umfangreiche Dokumentationen und Hilfe zum Ausrollen. Hier eine kleine Liste, was Microsoft alles bietet. Das wichtigste Tool dabei ist aus meiner Sicht Microsoft Deployment, der Nachfolger vom Microsoft Business Desktop Deployment 2007. Basierend auf BDD kommen jedoch in Microsoft Deployment gezielt Updates für Windows Vista SP1 hinzu und auf für Windows Server 2008.

Microsoft Deployment Tools Roadmap

A number of Microsoft tools are receiving updates prior to the end of FY08. Recently, we published a roadmap with support timing for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 installation as a stand-alone package or integrated in the OS image. A number of additional tool updates are taking place in the coming 5 months.

Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) 2007 – Patch 2

Please update to the most current version, Microsoft Deployment, released in November 2007. We do realize that most customers are still using BDD 2007 at this point for Windows Vista projects, so we are providing an update to support Windows Vista SP1. The official timing for this release is within 10 days of Windows Vista SP1, but we are hoping to have this release ready before the end of this month. This is the last update planned for BDD 2007.

Microsoft Deployment – Service Pack 1

Microsoft Deployment is the latest toolset and does not differ drastically from BDD 2007, the same holds true for the update required to support Windows Vista SP1. Microsoft Deployment’s SP1 release will largely extend support for Windows Server 2008 deployment scenarios and guidance. On the client side, this release will offer support for Windows Vista SP1 and include light guidance to the existing Feature Team Guides to support decisions around deploying MDOP solutions and technologies.

Microsoft Deployment – Release 2

Microsoft Deployment Release 2 will coincide with the release of System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1. Microsoft Deployment R2 will provide highly-requested features for OEM pre-build support and automated installation to other partitions. It will also support deployment-related updates made to Configuration Manager 2007, including WDS multicast support for Zero Touch installation. R2 also plans to streamline documentation and provide more guidance support for MDOP solutions.  Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 is planned as a Q4 FY08 release, Microsoft Deployment R2’s release will be within a few weeks of the Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 release.

Windows Vista Hardware Assessment – Now Microsoft Assessment and Planning 3.0

Microsoft Assessment and Planning (MAP) 3.0 is the latest version of the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment (WVHA) tool. This network-wide inventory and assessment tool will offer the same functionality as the WVHA tool, but it will also add hardware and device compatibility assessment for Windows Server 2008 migration (hence the name change). The new MAP tool adds the ability to recommend candidates for server virtualization, assess infrastructure for Microsoft Application Virtualization and inventory non-Windows machines. MAP 3.0 release is also planned for the end of this month (Feb 27).
