except it STILL doesnt mount ISO’s…when is MS going to learn!!!!!
It is awesome that Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2, are able to burn ISO images. What we need now is an ability to mount ISO images as virtual CD/DVD drives natively within Windows.
Ideally both within Windows explorer and on the command line. MSDN used to provide a Virtual CD utility to do this although a version was never released for Windows Vista and it doesn’t work on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
In addition to saving money by not creating a CD or DVD, an installation of Microsoft Office, for example, is much faster from a virtually mounted ISO image.
I personally don’t mind if this is released as a separate download, either through MSDN or for everyone, but this really would be cool.
I could probably pay for the Windows 7 upgrade alone with all the DVD’s I wouldn’t have to buy in a year from burning all the software I download from MSDN subscriber downloads.
