Journal: LA, CES in Vegas, ACM NYC, FEAPO, UNESCO Paris

Wishing you a happy and rewarding 2013!

I was in LA, Irvine, Long Beach, Claremont in Southern California in December meeting with senior executives from an accelerator, foundation, universities and Maria Klawe of HM college. One common theme was MOOCs (Massively Open Online Courses) and it’s worth looking into them such as from Courseara.

This week, leaving Sunday January 6th, I’m off to the CES in Las Vegas for fun and much learning while representing a European-located government innovation funding agency and as chief international editor for the largest business social media group. While in Las Vegas, I’ll remotely attend the IFIP IP3 board meeting where I am the Vice-Chairman and the Global Industry Council meeting where I am the founding Chairman.

I’m back for a few days and then I’m off to NYC for board meetings including with the Association for Computing Machinery, the world’s largest educational, scientific, research and professional association known for their Turing Awards (Nobel Prize of Computing), conferences, publications, digital library, and special interest groups such as SIGGRAPH. I’m on the ACM Practitioner Board and Chair three of ACM Practitioner Board Committees: Professional Development Committee, Professionalism and Certification Committee, and Webinar Committee. There’s an interview in post-production with the immediate past president of the ACM, the renowned, Alain Chesnais. Watch for it! Vint Cerf is the current President of the ACM.

I also have an interview in post-production with the 2013 President of the IEEE-CS, David Alan Grier where David has much to share.

After NYC, I’m have board meetings such as with FEAPO and with investment groups.

I’m then off to Paris in February for the UNESCO Summit.

I’ll provide an update of lessons learned from these travels.
