Double Double for your Trouble

This is the season of new classes and teachers, of harvest and giving thanks, of ghosts and goblins and witches. The days are getting shorter and your To Do list is getting longer in the lead-up to Christmas. In the midst of all the craziness, I invite you to take a few minutes, have a seat in front of your computer and do something just for you. And because we know it’s a busy time of year, we’ve added an incentive.

Windows Server 2012 represents a significant change in the Windows Server platform and even if your organization isn’t thinking of upgrading yet, chances are they will. It’s worth the time to take a look at it now so that you’re ready to go and can be the IT hero by making recommendations to put your organization in the best possible position to take advantage of the changes that are coming. Some of the Windows Server 2012 goodness includes:

  • The ability to live migrate your virtualized servers between hosts that have no shared storage
  • Software enabled NIC teaming built right in, allowing network adapters from different manufacturers to be teamed together
  • Support for virtual storage through Storage Spaces and storage pools, enabling you to group industry-standard disks into storage pools and then create storage spaces from the available pool capacity
  • Dynamic Access Control to define central file access policies at the domain level that apply to every file server in that domain

…and much, much more. But if that isn’t motivation enough to start learning about Windows Server 2012, once you’ve downloaded an evaluation copy, we’d like to send you a $10 Tim Horton’s gift card! Yup, that’s right, not only do you get the benefit of being up on the latest server OS from Microsoft, but you’ll get a coffee to help stimulate more of those smart brain cells as well.

Here’s what you need to do:
Step 1:  Go to this link and sign in using your Microsoft account/Live ID.

Step 2:  Confirm your shipping details (so we can send you the card), plus any other info you want to update.

Step 3:  When the page comes up, download the WS2012 evaluation.

Yes, the offer is valid and available to all Canadian residents*, including those in Quebec. So don’t delay, because our Tim’s card stash is limited and once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Sweet Deal – I always attend MS event in Toronto and it is good to know MS cares about IT professional working in Canada.  Thanks U….

  5. Dave says:

I was asked to complete a registration form no less than three times during this process…   not enough hours in the day to fool around with that idea

  6. Dan C. says:

Makes me proud to be a MS Tech.  Thanks Microsoft!!!

  7. Hi Chen,

Sorry to hear the event link wasn't working for you.  We're going to look into this.  In the meantime, we'll be running a number of Windows Server IT Camps in October and November.  We've just finalized Montreal and Ottawa with more to come.  You can find more information here:

  8. Steve W says:

    You guys rock. Thanks!

  9. Hi Dave, thanks for the feedback.

We agree that it's not always ideal to provide all the info, that's why we tried to make it easier.  You may have noticed when you filled out the first form/info with your mailing address, that information was copied over for you.

I understand that if you don't have a Microsoft ID, then you do need to fill out a form for that as well.  If you received our newsletter about this promotion, then you may have read about some of the friction, which is exactly why we offered the gift card to help overcome some of it.

Hopefully if you have some time over the weekend, you'll give it another go.  It only takes a few minutes to complete.

    Kind regards,

  10. Shawn, v-Edwina, Chen, Ram and Dan,

    You're welcome:)

We really do care and we're glad we could do something like this for you.

Was at the Windows Server 2012 launch today in Ottawa. The improvements in Hyper-V in Windows Server 2012 is impressive!

  12. Peter says:

Thanks for the DD and download 🙂

Btw I'm downloading this via a VPN connection which ports in the US will this effect this offer ? I'm located in Canada btw

  13. Chen, the team is looking into the issue you experienced, but they're having some trouble reproducing it.  Can you fwd me the email you're having an issue with or send me a screen shot of the problem?

  14. You're welcome Steve!

Robert, we're happy to hear you were able to make it to the event in Ottawa and really glad to hear you like what Windows Server 2012 and Hyper-V have to offer.  If you're interested in going deeper with a day long, hands on, IT Camp focused on Windows Server 2012, we're running one in Ottawa on October 15th.  You can get more info here:

  15. Hi Peter,

Just make sure that the info you put into the form is your Canadian information and that your Microsoft ID is also Canadian.  To be safe, can you send me your Microsoft ID (just the email address, not password) that you used to download the Windows Server 2012 evaluation?   I can check the reporting to make sure.

  16. nick says:

Yes thx for the DL & DD. I like how you provide an option to download in vhd nice 🙂

  17. Matthew says:

Downloading now, but curious, the TechNet email I get is to a different address that is not associated with a Live ID. Does that matter? Do you just simply need to be one of the first 1,100 Canadians to get the Tim's card? Got a server on the "cusp" spec-wise, so I'm anticipating using the whole card in the upgrade process. 🙂

Thanks anyway Microsoft! Proud to be a shareholder!

  18. Thanks for the feedback Nick, if you're happy, we're happy!

Matthew, it's okay if you're Microsoft ID (email) is different from the one you received the newsletter at.  As long as you use the same Microsoft ID (email) to sign up for the offer and download the trial, you'll be good.  Haha, glad to hear you'll make good use of the card during the upgrade:)

  19. Dan_IT says:

Is there any chance 2012 is coming back to Vancouver?  I was gone for the day and when I got back and found the offer it had already filled.

  20. Ruth Morton says:

    Hi Dan,

We're looking at bringing a WS2012 IT camp (full day hands-on workshop) to Vancouver and are just working through the scheduling. Please check as I'll be updating that post as registration becomes available in the various cities.
