Here's a word of advice. If you ever get a chance to see Microsoft Technical Fellow Mark Russinovich talk - in person or online - go see him. I haven't missed one of his talks over the last 6 years whenever he was speaking at an internal technical audience or even when I spoke last year at TechEd (he beat me by 0.01 points in "presenter skills, but I digress).

Mark has the kind of insight on systems and how they run that goes to the core of optimization.
