TechNet – How we do demos (and a special offer)

We are often asked how a person can get the software to build up a demo environment and do the demos we do when we are on tour.  Believe it or not, just because we work for Microsoft we don't have an unlimited pile of installation media and license keys to pull from.  We primarily get our software from two places, TechNet Beta Central and TechNet Plus Direct subscription.  Everyone on our team has a subscription and we use that software and those same licenses keys that anyone can set to build up the environments we use to do our demos.

    I really enjoy the technet direct but the troubles they are having with downloads right now would stop me from signing up till its fixed it has been a mounth at least since I was able to download anything from technet direct? Have been away for a bit not sure if this has come up on blogs here yet

    Believe it or not, if technet is ok; could just be a bad NIC in the PC.   I’ve had a few where the card links, get’s IP but no good throughput.  

    Change it with something else and the problem goes away.  

    And EVERYTIME it happens, it surprises me and I’m about to call Rogers… 🙂

  11. Can you explain why US residents get $100 off (, while Canadian residents only get 20% off?

    US Technet Direct Subscription – $249 USD = $239 CAD

    CAD Technet Direction Subscription – $279.20 CAD

    Also the US offer is good till May 2008, while the Canadian one is only good till December 20 2007.

    Why the difference?  Shipping charges are irrelevant here.  Even Wal-Mart are starting to selling books at US prices now.

    I have reported it and we will see how that goes I have tried an alternate and no luck there also. As for a nic if I could get to the page to start downloads then it failed my problem if I cannot get to the pages thier problem. I cannot believe that this is taking so long to resolve. I have no issues with any other download sites just the one I need at the moment. I ment this as a help to others ready to purchase a product that may not work for them buyer beware.

    Actually I’m being a smart ass here but is there a chance it’s permission related if it works good for the MS guys and not so good for others?   Or time of day?  

    I know from your internet connections you’re mostly using the same fare as the rest of us.

    Other possiblity is Cable VS DSL?   (DSL routers usually need at MTU of 1492 so tighter timing)

    Just throwing some thoughts out there.
