Windows Server Virtualization

Last week I participated in an event held in Cambridge called WWITPRO in the Know and gave a talk on Windows Server 2008 and Virtualization. I think the talk went well, but I had a couple of technical difficulties, and I wasn't able to complete the demos I had planned. So I've put together two 10 minute screencasts of what I would have shown, had I been able to.

The first screencast shows Windows Server 2008, highlighting the new Server Manager console, how to use servermanagercmd from the command line and Server Core. Even though I was able to complete this demo during the presentation, I thought I'd capture it anyway for posterity. This is my first attempt at doing a screencast and the audio isn't quite as good as I'd like it, although you should have no problem hearing it.

The second screencast is of Windows Server virtualization and the audio is better on this one. I show the mangement console, how to add and configure a virtual machine and how to monitor the performance of the hypervisor.

While the demos aren't complex and I don't show anything earth-shattering, it was pretty fun to figure out Camtasia and do the screencasts. I think I'll do this more often in the future to help me practice my presentations. It's a little weird to hear myself talk and after listening to them, there are a ton of things I'd like to improve! But that will come with time and practice.

In the meantime, I hope you find them useful!
