A while back I sat down with Graham Jones and we chatted about volunteering and IT Pros. For new IT Pros volunteering is a great way to get that ever valuable experience that potential employers seek and for seasoned veterans it is a great way to learn new skills and stay on top of the skills pile. One of the problems associated with volunteering is finding somewhere in need of your skills and this is where MatchIT comes into play.
What is MatchIT? Well think of it like the Lavalife for IT Pros and non-profit organizations. It is an online portal where charities and not-for-profit organizations can connect with Developers, IT Pro’s, Designers, Students or other technical individuals willing to volunteer their time and expertise to bring technology solutions to these organizations. The goal is to enable them to be more effective with their limited resources and focus their efforts on having a positive impact in society.
MatchIT will allow charities across the country to post virtual “want ads” describing opportunities to technical people that have registered and created a volunteer profile to assist these organizations. In addition to assisting in aligning these volunteer opportunities, Microsoft Canada Community Affairs will provide the applicable Microsoft software to the charities in order to ensure that the job is done right!
Sound like something you’d like to get involved in? If you are interested please head over to http://matchit.imaginecanada.ca/MSImagine/Home.aspx (www.matchit.ca is coming soon) and register yourself. There is no minimum requirements and you will never be forced to accept a volunteer position. I urge you to sign up and get involved in helping those who help our community.
I am signed up, are you?
