Windows Defender RTM

As we head into a deluge of product RTMs in the next weeks (no I don't know the date for Vista RTM) I saw that Windows Defender has RTM'd.  Windows Defender has been in beta for quite a while now, but testing has been completed and Microsoft's Anti-spyware tool is complete.  I have highlighted some of my favourite feature

  • Improved detection and removal – New engine, real time protection, leads to better detection and removal of spyware.  Who thinks this isn't a good thing?
  • Protection for all users – Windows Defender runs with or without administrative privileges. As I am running Vista as a standard user, this makes me very happy.
  • Support for 64-bit platforms, accessibility and localization - 64-bit is making its way into every enviroment.  All my home PCs, besides my notebooks are x64 capable.  Just be sure you install the 64-bit version!
  • Free Limited Support - As a part of our commitment to the security of our customers, free support for installation, configuration, definition update, detection and removal errors will be available for a limited time after download and installation. Please refer to the Windows Defender support policy for more information.  This is great as you can deploy this to your parents PC and then let them call us for support!!
