Some Windows Server R2 resources from our newest Guest Blogger – Mitch Tulloch (MVP Windows Server)

I hooked up with Mitch while in Winnipeg. Nice guy – very knowledgeable and has a passion for writing and technology. I am very glad he has decided to share his experiences and skills with the IT Pro guys in addition to their Managers…

Hi this is Mitch Tulloch MVP here in Winnipeg. I'm usually a guest blogger on the Canadian IT Managers blog but I asked Rick Claus if I could also post something here on the Canadian IT Pro blog. A couple of days ago, Rick did a terrific presentation at TechNet Build’06 here in Winnipeg, and his afternoon session included describing the benefits of upgrading to Windows Server 2003 R2. These benefits include volume and folder quotas, file screening, storage monitoring and reporting, a new printer management console, and a totally revamped distributed file system (DFS). If you're thinking about upgrading your Windows Server environment to R2, you might be interested in checking out a series of tutorial articles that I wrote on R2 for, specifically:

And in the next few weeks a couple more R2 articles I've written will appear on These additional articles will be titled Configuring and Using DFS Replication, Managing Printers with Windows Server 2003 R2, and Deploying Printers With Group Policy. You can subscribe to the RSS feed for my website if you want to be notified when these and other articles of mine appear.

Finally, another great resource for learning about R2 is the latest edition of the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Administrator's Companion from Microsoft Press. This book, written by MVPs Charlie Russell and Sharon Crawford was recently updated to include coverage of R2 features, and I know it's a great book since I was also technical editor for it, heh!
