Tool Available to Verify Certificate Authentication for Mobile 5 Devices

As a follow-on to the TNX:TechNet Exchange Tour, I thought I would share with you a new tool that was recently released to help you ensure your certificate-based authentication of Mobile 5 devices is properly configured.  The Microsoft Exchange Server ActiveSync Certificate-Based authentication tool provides several utilities to assist an Exchange administrator in configuring and validating client certificate authentication for Exchange Server ActiveSync.

The tool assists the administrator in configuring certificate enrollment for mobile devices connecting to Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2. Specifically, the tool will help the administrator populate the Active Directory with the following information to be used by the mobile device when enrolling for a certificate:

  • Certification authority (CA) server name
  • Certificate template that will be used
  • Other settings, such as custom Web enrollment URLs

The Microsoft Exchange Server ActiveSync Certificate-Based authentication tool can be used on Mobile 5 devices that support the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) for Mobile 5, which is a part of Exchange Server 2003 SP2.  Devices must have the AKU2 version of Mobile 5 that Rick and I spoke of on the tour.  These devices should be available in Canada in the next couple of months or so.

You can download the Microsoft Exchange Server ActiveSync Certificate-Based authentication tool from here.
