Last 2 Left uses open source friendly Azure to deliver a free gaming platform for fantasy games

Last 2 Left dubs itself the world’s simplest fantasy format game for sports, reality TV and more. With their mobile app and website, Last 2 Left allows people to play a wide range of games from their phones, absolutely free. You can join a public game against other people from all over the world or start your own private fantasy game with friends and colleagues. “Our goal is to provide people with a fun, easy game for all of their favorite college and pro sports, reality TV shows, contests, and more,” says CEO and Founder David Sonn, “In less than a minute, our app allows members to join a game and select their picks. They can then sit back to enjoy the season without the constant worry of deadlines.”

A Microsoft BizSpark member, Last 2 Left uses Microsoft technologies to host and run their application. The company leverages ASP.NET Web API and ASP.NET MVC on the front end for the primary application, while running Web Forms as an administrator for their Facebook app. They also use Azure SQL as their database and Azure Storage for storing and publishing resources and user files. “Azure’s tools have made it quick and easy to build and deploy a reliable solution,” continues Sonn, “We can scale up and out as needed and they've helped to control our costs during launch by only having to pay for the resources we absolutely need.”

Azure’s seamless compatibility with open source offerings, namely Umbraco and Facebook SDK, reinforced Last 2 Left’s decision to go with Azure. The company needs Umbraco to enable non-technical staff members to easily post news content and game data, and leverages Facebook SDK to provide their customer with an easier path to registration. “Everything has run effortlessly,” says Sonn, “Azure allows us to work efficiently as a distributed team., without any negative surprises."
