Featured Startup on Windows 8 - Bodeefit

Imagine being able to whip out your phone anywhere on the planet and with the help of an app complete any number of exercises that are going to get you into shape. Yes, one of the new apps coming to the Windows 8 store does that. Bodeefit's Windows 8 workout app helps you time and keep track of your daily workouts. Log each work after your done and keep track of your progress.

Here is our interview with Founder Blake Miller, who you can find on Twitter @bodeefit.

Can you tell me a little bit about your company?

Bodeefit is a health & fitness application that provides daily body weight workouts & weekly Paleo recipes, meal plans, and shopping lists. Our workouts find their roots from traditional crossfit workouts and are designed so you can workout anywhere and anytime with no equipment needed. It's a great alternative to other expensive workouts, an at-home Crossfit, a nutrition guide and the answer to your fitness goals.

What Microsoft technologies are you using in conjunction with the development of your application?

Visual Studio, WinJS

Show us a little bit how it's done.

Here's a video that explains the app.

Where do you include technical members of your team during the building of your business plan?

Our technical members are involved from the ground up.  Not only have they designed our Windows 8 application from the ground up; they have helped shape the Bodeefit startup as a whole by designing a suite of services for our growing community.  Our Technical team are also avid bodeefitters themselves. We coined that phrase. We like it.

How much of what you are building is based on leaving a legacy and how much of it is based on technical challenges, or the ability to make something just for fun? In other words, where do you fall on the seriousness scale? For fun, for profit, for life?

We are serious about helping people with Bodeefit.  We believe there shouldn’t be any barriers to your health and fitness and with Bodeefit we think we can help solve that.  It’s fun for us, we all are serious about our health, with most of us being avid crossfitters for years.  Since working on this app, our lead developer has lost over 40lbs.

When did you decide that you were “startup material”?

Startups are in our Blood. [Advisor] Adam Griffin and I are life long friends with lots of history.  We have a common bond where we have had this passion to do it our own way.  We have startups separately that have failed.  But it’s about learning from those mistakes and pushing forward.

What impact or legacy do you hope to make in the market and in the business world?

If Bodeefit can help a million people reach their Health & fitness goals, that’s more than anything Adam or I could imagine.

Can you describe the relationship that you have had with Microsoft in building your startup?

Our team (Karri & Taylor) are an incredibly  valuable resource.  The ability to have real conversations with them is really what led us to building Bodeefit.  The Windows 8 Dev camp they put on was a real eye opener to us as to what could be done on Windows 8.  With that new fast tracked insight we were able to quickly concept a windows 8 app that was perfectly suited to help a local startup grow.

Why would an entrepreneur turn to Microsoft for help in building scale, a team, or using software?

Most importantly the support that entrepreneurs get from Microsoft makes you truly feel like they have your back.  It’s definitely a support team and I use the team as in they are on your team.
