Interview with Markus C. Mueller, Founder of ubitexx

Tell us who you are and your role in the company:

I am the founder of ubitexx and I am now the responsible Managing Director for Product, Development and Strategy.

What did you do before creating your company?

I founded ubitexx while still in University but I did work for Palm and Microsoft while going to law-school.

How do you feel being the most promising ‘Startup of the Day’ per Microsoft BizSpark?

I am thrilled about it. We are very proud to be part of BizSpark One which allows us to even enhance our relationship with Microsoft.

What is your company’s mission?

To become the worlds best Mobile Device Management Software Company.

How did you get the idea for your company?

We started as a system integrator/consulting firm in 2002 and did over 300 projects until 2005 before we started to solve all the problems we had experienced during our projects. The outcome was “ubi-Suite” – the award winning software for enterprises to manage all your smartphones.

How many employees do you have? How many developers?

30 employees, 12 developers.

Are you hiring? If yes, what are you hiring and where?

Yes, we are hiring in Germany and are looking for senior developers and product QA staff.

Which platform are you building on? Why?

On the server side we built on .NET and run on Microsoft servers and MS SQL databases. On the mobile client side we use C++/C# on Windows Mobile and Symbian.

Where do you see opportunities today in the Software/internet area?

Mobility is definitely one of the most exciting topics right now. Convergence in any means will change the way we work and live right now. And Security which maintains a great user experience is an interesting area.

What do you think about the BizSpark Program?

It is great that Microsoft supports the startup community. For us, BizSpark gives us access to Microsoft Software but also to experts within Microsoft where we can discuss future strategies and make sure we are in line with Microsoft’s strategy.

Do you have any advice for young Software entrepreneurs?

These times are exciting times. The world is changing so quickly and opens up so many opportunities for young and passionate entrepreneurs. Keep in mind that you might need longer to develop your software – also the market might pick it up slower than you think. It is important to have some leeway, also in terms of funds.

Who’s your role model?

I love to talk to entrepreneurs who are passionate about what they do. Every talk with them is inspiring and motivates me.

What’s the ONE THING you would like readers to take away from this interview?

Be passionate about what you do – and go buy our software.
