So no technical glitch and alle promo codes are filled and no chance to it being opened again?

Next time we (at least in Western Europe) have to stay up all night to try to register? Not kindly fair IMHO, but okay …

  2. Bibbleq says:

    @Roel

I meant the two weeks window to take the test, not the actual test time ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m scheduled to be away for those two weeks so wont be able to take it… I wish some test centres were open at weekends.

  3. Anonymous says:

@bitsandbytes, why is it that you CAN register and we CAN’T register at the same time? Very strange behaviour @ Prometric.

  4. I just finished the Prep Guide so it will be posted in a few days.

Yes, 70-680 will count towards the MCITP:Enterprise Administrator, MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7 and MCITP: Enterprise Support Technician 7

  5. Anonymous says:

Apparently it will count for the MCITP Ent Admin, and the new desktop related ‘enterprise’ ITP, with one other exam based on deployment. Read this on the born to learn forum, somewhere in the comments from MS

  6. It’s so pity… but russia also get:

"The maximum count for the promotion has been exceeded. Please try another promotion."

If this voucher has limited amount why did it’s not be described :(.

27 april in my time zone start in 3AM ๐Ÿ™ but i was ready not sleep for register…

Please provide info if it limited time or amount… This will be usefull for those who lives in others time zones.

  7. Anonymous says:

Lucky me…I still have a voucher code which I used to register for the exam….too bad MS had to little open seats available ๐Ÿ™

  8. Thanks for being patient, Kjetil, but I’m still up. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sorry, but there were a limited number of beta seats and with thousands of people trying to register as soon as it opened up, they went astonishingly quick. As the invite above indicates, having a code "does not guarantee you a seat in the beta; we recommend that you register immediately! Beta exams have limited availability and are operated under a first-come-first-served basis. Once all beta slots are filled, no additional seats will be offered."

As you would imagine, the Win 7 stuff is very, very popular. We appreciate your enthusiasm but have only a limited number of slots to fill. There will be plenty of availability when the exam goes live.

    Thanks again!

same here in Germany, too. Looks more like an overall tech issue…

  10. Anonymous says:

    Hello J. Seymour,

i called the Prometric European Support Center and they told me that the test is at the moment only available at india.

For the European Area they have to wait until the US Headquarter is opened and enable the promotion code. Maybe at 4 p.m. German time the promotion Code will work.

  11. Wilfred says:

thought 680 would count for MCITP Enterprise Admin, does this still count??

Doesnot show up on my MCP transcript….

@meerkat, exactly! The beta exams for Windows Server 2008 were even more popular than Windows 7 and everybody had a fair chance for registering.

  38. Here in Australia I found this exam to be booked out by the time it was available on prometric website. On the 27th could not book this exam (was not available), 5 am on the 28th it was booked out.

Having been able to participate in a lot of beta exams for new technology this is the first time couldn’t get registered.

That’s what I thought about myself too, until I called Prometric and they put the promo code in for me and refunded my purchase! So I’m in for free now too!

Perhaps I won’t be so trigger happy next time =)

  40. I don’t believe that to be the case. The beta isn’t publically available in India. Per the invite above: "Regional Restrictions: India, Pakistan, China"

That said, obviously I’m not talking to Prometric at 2am here in Redmond so you’re welcome to try again. However, the error "The maximum count for the promotion has been exceeded." generally means we have run out of slots.

  41. No, I’m sorry. There won’t be any more beta slots created.

  42. We just increased the available beta slots. Please keep in mind these will go terribly fast and, like every beta exam weโ€™ve ever offered, is still on a first come, first served basis.

Also, I’d like to mention that the whole point of a beta exam, as some have mentioned, is to gather statistics and comments from candidates who take the exam rather than providing a chance to certify for free. In exchange for your help in giving us statistics we need, we offer a free exam in the way of thanks. Having qualified and novice candidates are both helpful in this process.

Good luck, and thanks again for your enthusiasm!

  67. For the record we had the same number of slots for this beta exam as others. Unfortunately they went in the first hour or so. I then *quadrupled* the number of beta slots we normally have and you still burned through those in several hours.

Sorry we ran though the extra slots. It is absolutely nutty the demand we’ve had for this beta. At this point we’re worried about having more data than we can crunch before release. Thank you to everyone who is or tried to get signed up! It is great to see such excitement. We appreciate your support.

As someone who tried at 8:00am EST, I’m a little frustrated. (I set an Outlook alarm just to remind me)

    Perhaps Microsoft should:

    a) begin charging a small fee for beta exams (to set the bar slightly higher)

    b) post less time ahead/only on this blog to limit the number of people aware

Having 20,000 people aware of a test that costs them nothing yet could potentially count as a certification certainly skewed the supply/demand.

My primary issue is that this is the *Beta Exam Blog*, so you’d think that this blog, of all, might let people know that they should stay up until midnight in order to get a spot. Saying "first-come, first-served" means little when it is followed by a statement that the test will be filled "in the first week or so".

As someone who has the beta blog RSS feed, and follows it fairly religiously, I’m a little disappointed.

  86. Unfortunately, the time window is purely a function of the popularity of the exam. With a limited number of slots available it doesn’t make sense to leave it open for a month when we’ll fill all our slots in the first week or so.

The sooner we get the beta done, the sooner we can release the exam. Sorry about the inconvenient timing Ben, but you wouldn’t want us to have to wait around until you get back from vacation to crunch the numbers would you? ๐Ÿ™‚

If anyone from Microsoft is still reading this, why don’t you limit the next Windows 7 beta exams to those who have passed this one?  Given the number of testers for 071-680, you should have a large enough pool of qualified testers for the next round of beta tests right?

If it is possible to register for money, than why do not vouchers work on this beta exam? Is it possible to enable vouchers to work on this beta?

As I understand, situation when people register for money should not be avaliable. But since it is, I think it would be fair to enable vouchers for those, who have them.

Right now I am trying to decide if I should pay and register for the beta or wait untill the release and use the voucher. Just really want to take the exam sooner, I have started preparing for it since the announcement on this blog.

    Some Examples might be….

The BETA tester should have the latest Client exam passed.

The BETA tester should have taken an MS exam within in a specified time frame.

Hmm, I think MS gave very limitted seats – may be around 50 or so.

It is shame that it has expired with in 2hrs of opening.

  113. Anonymous says:

I’ve passed it too, but I also can’t find the score report. I contacted prometric and they said that the score report will be sent to us by Microsoft. I’m looking forward to that.

  114. Anonymous says:

From Belgium I get the same message:

"The maximum count for the promotion has been exceeded. Please try another promotion."

I hope new promo codes will be released to give opportunity to people that really want to beta-test the exam.

http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/Exams/70-680.aspx … Is it restricted for MCPs or what’s wrong?"

What do you expect from beta exam? It is beta.

    Some info on this link

In fact, it was really possible to pay for the exam and book it at the moment that the WINj7 code was not valid anymore at the first time.

  117. Anonymous says:

@ ahmhdy : It is a beta exam. There is no prep material yet. If you unsure that you will pass you probably shouldn’t take this one.

@ testtaker : Yep, get the Beta and virtual PC and work with it ๐Ÿ™‚

I work with W7 now on my home PC, work PC and virtual machines for a while …

  118. Anonymous says:

To those who have taken the exam, did you need the full 4 hours or were you able to complete it before the time ran out?

  119. Anonymous says:

I took it on Tuesday. I agree that it’s a bit harder than the 70-620 as weslee said, and there were 1-2 confusing questions, but overall it’s a pretty good exam to take. Enjoyed it… ๐Ÿ™‚

Other: On the http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/Exams/70-680.aspx page, it is written that "Published:      June 01, 2009 (in development)". Does this mean that we will get our score report by June 01?

  120. Anonymous says:

If the amount of seats was really limited that much, it’s a shame how it has been communicated in the blogs. When Windows Server 2008 was in beta phase, it really worked much better.

    Same Here, I so sad.

"The maximum count for the promotion has been exceeded. Please try another promotion.", 7:30 Am and I thought that pools were not yet open. Still, is not 27th April in Pacific time (8h difference) ๐Ÿ˜› …

So sad … Can we have another promo code ?

    Same here in Germany.

"The maximum count for the promotion has been exceeded. Please try another promotion."

  123. Anonymous says:

How many questions will there be on the original exam (75)?

  124. Anonymous says:

So did anyone from the USA get registered for this?

  125. Anonymous says:

I wasn’t able to use the promo code but did get in by paying for it. Used a 50% off partner voucher. I don’t want to have to wait until after the beta to take this exam.

  126. Anonymous says:

get more seats opened up jseymour!

  127. Anonymous says:

Defo – because the code is not needed to book the exam, just to get it for free – so not sure why jseymour  says it isn’t possible. If it SHOULD NOT be possible, then it is clearly a Prometric "problem".

  128. Anonymous says:

Well I pulled the trigger and spent the money for it, we’ll see what happens. I got the confirmation email from Prometric and everything looks like it went through fine. I guess I’ll find out soon if this will actually work. I personally am happy to pay for this since it counts toward certification. If I pass, then I’ll be one of the first with the MCTS Win7 cert and I’ll have a jump on the MCITP:DA cert. Makes good sense to me

  129. Anonymous says:

Just registred a seat in the Netherlands!

So i think not many people here going on beta.

  130. Anonymous says:

Thanks m8 – I really appreciate that .. and poor bastid who paid for it ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

    Fantastic.

    Good luck to everyone.

  133. Anonymous says:

Finally I was able to register, too!

Very glad about it I’m looking forward downloading the RC on 5th May. With the first "open beta" I just got a blue screen in my virtual machine (virtualbox).

    Good luck for everyone!

  134. Anonymous says:

But some people were able to pay for it when there were no seats available anymore ?!? I thought the voucher code simply gives you a 100% discount ?

  135. Anonymous says:

I may end up paying to take the BETA as well… For now, I’ll be a little more patient, in case any more seats open up.

  136. Anonymous says:

I’m gutted that you can’t register for this exam now…. have been using 7 for about 5 months now and love it…. was really looking forward to taking this exam.

I suppose it’s a bit of a rock and hard place situation for Microsoft. On one hand the old MCP email invite procedure ensured that they had a degree of control over who took it (as well as requiring the person being invited to have already entered into the Microsoft testing programme) but on the other hand, publicising the beta and code means it’s a free for all and invariably there will be taking this exam merely because it’s free and a chance of a cert…. that ‘I’ll have a go and see how I get on’ scenario….. it’s not costing them anything.

Personally I wish they’d structure the beta exam process better. For instance if they gave a 1/3 of the seats as ‘MCP invite only’, and 1/3 to Partners, TechNet Plus, etc and the final 1/3 open to the public, then I think they’d get much better feedback on the exam and a broader scope of professionals.

The beta exam process, after all, is to ‘test’ the exam and provide feedback on questions. I can recall on the 2008 betas providing a great deal of feedback yet I wonder how much they will get from this 7 beta. I suspect it will be little and a substantial portion of people are taking this beta as a chance to earn a free cert rather than genuinely participate in the beta process.

Tried registering for an exam at 6:30 AM Local Eastern Time and was told that The maximum count for the promotion has been exceeded. Please try another promotion. So pretty much no one in the US was awake in time to sign up.

  143. Anonymous says:

I think beta exams must be available only for MCPs… because, if is opened for public, many people will register only beacuse it is FREE… like I saw on 70-656 (MDOP), hundreds of people (including some friends) registred and don’t sit to do the exam.

  144. Anonymous says:

I’ve been trying all day as well with the promotional code or an exam voucher and still no luck. There are still seats in my local exam centre, should I pay for it or wait for a few more days?

I think you can still pay and take the exam. Yesterday @dallasr was able to book the exam when the voucher code stopped working.

hi jseymour, Thanks for putting extra seats there. however, I missed that again, I tried last night and posted here, the time you extend that was actaully midnight here in NZ. Now i woke up and did the first thing to check here, and found it has been extened and…booked full again.

Is there any chance to have a beta seat in NZ? I’m not sure how many ppl were made it here, the timing thing just became a major problem…

So please can I just have one seat? you can email me pgsheng@gmail.com

    thanks so much~ ๐Ÿ™‚

Woooooah there, did you say "MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7"?!

I just googled for that and found nothing so I’m guessing this is a sneak hint of something to come.  Do you have any more information to share?

I’m really, really hoping this will be the ‘next level’ recognition we’ve needed in the desktop space for ages… please say I’m right :o)

  151. Anonymous says:

It is a Beta Exam and takes 4hrs. You might have to wait for few weeks for the result. If it was a regular exam it may be less than 2hrs and know the results once you completed the test.

So I might pay and take it when it is released but now I hope we all given another chance. I wouldn’t be paying for it now.

  152. Anonymous says:

Too bad I was in the middle of a flight in a plain when the number of seats for the exam was increased. ๐Ÿ™

Is it still possible to have a seat on the beta exam (I’m ready to pay for the exam) or do I have to wait untill the exam is released now? I’ve tried entering free exam voucher I have to register for the exam, but it did not work. It gave me this error message: "Discount is not offered for this Exam Alias".

  162. Anonymous says:

@testtaker : Most of the people who signed up are from the US. A lot of people in Europe (including me) didn’t even get the option on the Prometric site as soon as the registration started. Once we did see it, it was all gone already.

Man you cannot believe how pi*ed off I am …

How frustrating .. it wasn’t listed here in the UK until mid morning, then the website wasn’t reachable for hours just to get the exceeded error.

Europe had a bad starting point anyway considering the timezones.

I hate when people registring just because its free and people like us, who are OEM, Gold and SPLA partner don’t even get a fair chance ๐Ÿ™

  167. Anonymous says:

Anyone have any good sites for the exam preparation?  I’ve got several but I was hoping there are one or two sites that have it more organized.

  168. Herleson Pontes says:

    Well Friends,

At least, those who are already Enterprise Support Technician Certified in Vista, Microsoft should release an exam to upgrade the credentials to Win7.

Let´s wait and see what will happens.

  169. Anonymous says:

Hey guys, for everyone in the US, prometric seems to be having some type of problem. I tried to register with the promo code and it said timeout error. I then paid for the exam and it registered fine at the testing center I wanted.

I called prometric told them of my problem and the lady was nice enough to speak to a manager and override the system so I could register for the exam at no charge. She did say she received an error as well, but then it worked. I will have to cancel my appointment that I paid for. Apparently not all seats have been sold yet.

Doesn’t mean it will work for everyone but the site must be overloaded for requests.

  170. Anonymous says:

I’m a little disappointed to find out about this to late and to learn it from 2 of my co-workers that have no certifications.  I have MCDST and MCITP – Enterprise Support certifications and never received any correspondence that I could have signed up for this.  I took the BETA exam for Vista because I recieved an invitation due to my certification as MCDST.  It seems you kind of ignored us this go around.  Oh well, it is what it is.

  171. Anonymous says:

tried register in New Zealand, 10pm NZ time (just saw this post…), same message "The maximum count for the promotion has been exceeded. Please try another promotion… "

Is there any possibility to have more seat?

    Thanks

  172. Anonymous says:

Would you still be able to sign up for the exam but just pay the $125? I understand that not all people would want to do that for a beta exam, but it looks like that is possible, no?

  173. Its even more of a kick in the teeth not being able to register if you work for Microsoft especially if you stayed up til 1am trying, then waking at 7am to find all codes are fully used already…..

  174. Anonymous says:

I think that’s it must be a technical issue. I live in Russia, and four hours ago this registration wasn’t able, because all promo codes were used ๐Ÿ™

I’m really hope, that Microsoft update this bug or make more seats – I was waiting for this exam for a long time, I hope that it will be my first beta.

  175. Kjetil says:

Let’s calm down people.. probably just a technical glitch. Let Microsoft answer when they get up in the morning… we don’t want it to go back to a "random invite based on MCP mail" again. Atleast I don’t.

  176. Some food for thought about beta exams:

If you are taking a beta exam just because it is free, the odds are you won’t pass and it will be a waste of several hours of your time, not to mention less meaningful statistics for MSL. Historically we held beta exams by invitation only. Today we have opened up the beta process with this blog and other venues. However, that only works by the honor system. A strong beta helps us vet good items from bad in return for a free exam. It provides an opportunity to be on the cutting edge of certification with the possibility to influence the final release version of an exam with our comments. If you’re not a qualified candidate, you most likely won’t have a good experience and we won’t get good statistics.

    Just something to think about.

  177. Anonymous says:

Yep, got the official ‘congrats’ email from MS.

It appears on the MCP transcript, I can download the digital certificate… no free certificate though… (grrr seperate issue).

A final good luck to all! ๐Ÿ™‚

  178. Anonymous says:

Seemed like a thorough exam although I honestly wasn’t prepared enough for it. Some items I’d read about, so hopefully scored high enough to pass. Thinking back on it, it was probably a little easier than the WinXP exam I took a few years ago.
