TechNet Webcast: SQL Server Performance Counter Guidance
Monitoring performance on Microsoft SQL Server using perfmon can be difficult. There are many counters, and it is hard to determine what you should be looking for. Having a set list of counters and knowing what to look for can help SQL Server administrators determine whether performance issues exist, and how scalable their servers are. They can be used to indicate areas of focus when performance issues exist, possibly pointing to CPU, disk, memory, or SQL Server issues.
