Issue: Configuration wizard failed after installing FEB CU 2011.

Environment:

· Microsoft SharePoint 2010

· 1 APP/WFE + 1 WFE

· Windows server 2008

Resolution:

· Analysed the Upgrade logs and fond the following error:

[OWSTIMER] [UserProfileApplicationSequence] [ERROR] [5/16/2012 12:35:31 PM]: Action 14.1.1.0 of Microsoft.Office.Server.Upgrade.UserProfileApplicationSequence failed.

[OWSTIMER] [UserProfileApplicationSequence] [ERROR] [5/16/2012 12:35:31 PM]: Exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

[OWSTIMER] [UserProfileApplicationSequence] [ERROR] [5/16/2012 12:35:31 PM]: at Microsoft.Office.Server.Upgrade.TenantNewsFeedEnabledUpgrader2.Upgrade()

· Ran the powerShell command “Get-Spserviceapplication” and found that there are two user profile application.

· The User profile service application 1 was corrupted and not been provisioned properly.

· Confirmed that it can be deleted from the environment.

· Deleted the user profile application from central admin.

· Ran the command “psconfig –cmd upgrade –inplace b2b –wait –force” and completed the upgrade successfully.
