On the Windows For IT Pros blog it was announced that there would be some major improvements to update distribution for some previous versions of Windows, including Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2. The main reason I’m calling out the server versions is that much of the noise this announcement has generated has focused purely on the desktop.
This means that non-security updates for the following Windows versions will be available as a monthly rollup:
- Windows 7 SP1
- Windows 8.1
- Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
- Windows Server 2012
- Windows Server 2012 R2
Each month a single update containing all of the non-security fixes for that month will be released.
Make sure you take a look at Simplifying updates for Windows 7 and 8.1 for more details.
