SBS2008- “Cannot Configure Backup Schedule” error when you run Configure Server Backup wizard on Small Business Server 2008.

[Today’s post comes to us courtesy Vikramjit Singh.]

We have seen a couple of issues with SBS 2008 Backup now and here is one of them. You may receive the following error while running SBS 2008 Backup Wizard.

CAUSE:

This error may occur if the amount of data which is being backed up is more than the actual size of the backup drive.
For example - If we have 3 partitions as below:-

C Drive – Used Space 124 GB
D Drive – Used Space 83 GB
E Drive – Used Space 103 GB

Total Data to backup is 310 GB. However, if the backup disk has a capacity of 310 GB or lesser then we would receive the above error message.

Also if we look at the SBCW.log under C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server 2003\logs the following error can be seen:-

Resolution:

You could add a backup drive which has more space capacity than the data which has to be backed up. Else could deselect one of the data drives from the backup list and then continue.
