The App-V client installation may fail if there's insufficient free space on the drive for the cache

Here's another issue we saw during the App-V 4.5 beta that you might run across when installing the client.  The resolution may seem obvious but the error can be confusing because it won't come right out and tell you that you don't have enough drive space:

========

Issue: When installing the Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.5 Desktop Client or the Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.5 Terminal Server Client the following message appears when there is not enough available storage to fit a cache file of the specified size:

You must specify a cache size that is equal to or larger than 100 MB and equal to or smaller than 64 GB.

Cause: The message applies to a variety of conditions where the specified cache size is incorrect and it may not always be readily apparent when insufficient storage is the root cause.

Resolution: There are a couple options for working around this issue:

  • Free up additional space on the existing device.
  • Specify a different storage device with enough free space for the specified cache size.  This is done during setup in "Application Virtualization Data Location” dialog in the “Global Data Location” field.
  • Specify a smaller cache size.
  • Expand storage capacity.

A big thanks to Paul Freitas for getting this one documented.
