One of the major advantages SoftGrid has over some other virtualization technologies is the ability to deploy applications based on user or group membership. Sure, if you’ve ever had to deploy applications the old fashioned way then you already know how important this is, but what if you have a scenario in which you’d like to deploy an application to all users on a machine anyway? Back in the day this could be difficult but now it’s easy with the MSI utility. That’s because a virtualized application that’s been packaged using the tool can be distributed to any machine and made available to any user who logs in.
If you’re one of the many who have been using this tool over the past 6 months then you probably already know this, but I still get asked about it every now and then so I wanted to take a minute and clear that up here.
