Those of you who have been lucky enough to install ADFS in Longhorn Server have probably noticed what may appear to be a major discrepancy in the name spacing for the acronym ADFS. For instance, the Add Roles Wizard, which replaces Add/Remove Programs in R2, prominently displays AD FS on the left hand side of the wizard when you click on the server role titled “Active Directory Federation Services”.
Just so you know, this new naming scheme is indeed intentional. In fact, for Longhorn server all Active Directory technologies have been branded with AD<space><name of technology>. For example, Active Directory is now referred to as AD DS, which stands for Active Directory Domain Services. ADAM is now referred to as AD LDS (Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services).
