Exchange 2010 SP2 : GAL Segmentation announced (1) .

Back In Jan-2011, Exchange Team announced a post on GAL Segmentation Feature. Many large Organizations and Email Service providers  require the possibility of having Multiple address lists and views , which will enable users to view customized GAL . instead of Entire-GAL

Exchange Server 2007 can be leveraged to implement  Virtual Organizations and Address List Segregation whitepaper. Exchange PG Team announced , availability of similar functionality in Exchange 2010 SP2.

GAL Segmentation in Earlier versions of Exchange is ACL based on Permission structure. With exchange 2010 SP2 This feature is expected to be available as Address Book Policies.  I believe this is features will be available to manage via Exchange management console.

“Address Book Policies”  going to use an assignment model, instead  of the ACL-based GAL segmentation.

I know of those hundreds of questions posted on some of public blogs or waiting to be answered. If you are wondering how this assignment model works, how user gains access to the required GAL, how to assign multiple policies to user, or something else ….

With the traditional method of outlook GAL lookup process I do see a complication here with policy based Address list segregation .

I am looking forward for official statement from PG team.
