Defragmentation Best Practices for Analysis Services

One of my customer asked about best practice for Analysis Services about defragmentation. Answer is, yes we recommend defragmentation if you see fragmentation when using analysis services or after processing. There isn’t really anything special for AS here – like any other server system, you would want to defrag whenever the AS data files became too fragmented. The defrag tool can help you detect that, so you can just run it once a day, once a week or once a month depending on the frequency of data update and volumes of data. I would do it weekly to start with and if experimentation shows no significant fragmentation for multiple weeks in succession then I would do it less often and vice versa.
